Central Catholic, Crawfordsville top baseball polls

For the second straight season, sectional rivals Central Catholic and Frontier were ranked 1-2 in the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association preseason Class A poll.

In 3A, defending champion Crawfordsville is No. 1 and West Lafayette is No. 4. A total of seven area teams received votes in one of the polls. The Athenians received four of the seven first-place votes.

Central Catholic is the three-time defending Class A state champion, and the Knights defeated the Falcons in the sectional final in each of the past two seasons. CC received five first-place votes, while Frontier received one.

Frontier's Midwest Conference rival Tri-County is ranked No. 7 in Class A, and Clinton Prairie also received votes. Seeger received votes in Class 2A.

Frontier Falcons Outlook!

Frontier appears to be the only 1A school we play this year. They are ranked in the top 5 yearly and are always a nemesis to our Knights. This is their season outlook copied from IHSAA sports website. They will be a challenge again this year!!!

Overall Record Last Year: 25-5

Conference Record Last Year: 13-1


The Falcons return a pitching staff that accounted for 17 wins last season. Led by All-State candidate Hunter Gladish. The 6-1 Junior has a career record of 14-0 on the mound. Starting behind him will be a young group of talented arms. Brandon Gallinger, Kyle Mikesell, and Keegan Gagnon all have live arms as sophomores. Junior Tanner Hayden and Senior Kyle Whitlow will round out the pitching staff. All-State candidate Kyle Whitlow will lead the team from behind the plate. 6 starters return from a lineup that averaged 9 runs per game last season for the Falcons. Sr.'s Silas Maxwell and Whitlow lead the offensive attack along with Jr.Hunter Gladish and Austin Woolley. Sophmore returning starters Brandon Gallinger and Kyle Mikesell are tough outs. Gagnon, Alex Coverdale, Jake Hurst, Luke Mowery, Austin Byrd, Jacob Stockment, an Kolby Lopp will add depth and speed to the falcons lineup.
